Willow Weaving Day 18th February 2012
Saturday 18th February saw our first community gardening event this year, the construction of the living willow dome and tunnel. Our aim, to hide the compost bins (made in October 2011) and provide a den for the Nursery Group and any other users of the Community Garden at St. Nix.
The work began with cutting out of the shape and then pushing in the large willow withies. Once the basic shape was made thinner withies were woven to provide strength, stability and shape. Jacobs Well had to brave the rain but at least it softened the ground and the willow didn’t have to be watered!
Other members of Jacobs Well were busy weeding the beds of the community allotment or collecting bags of horse manure to prepare the soil ready for planting in March.
The community allotment gardening will start up again for this season on Friday 16th March 2012 @ 1:30 pm and will continue every Friday.
